The World Championship road races in Innsbruck are shaping up to be some of the most hard fought battles for the rainbow jersey we’ve seen in years.

In this extra special preview podcast from Rouleur’s team on the ground, Executive Editor Ian Cleverly and Desire Editor Stuart Clapp are joined by Matt Stephens, fresh from riding the challenging course.

Where will the crucial moves be made, what are the winning tactics and who are the men and women who’ll be standing on the Innsbruck podium?

There’s been a lot of talk about how much the race will be decided by the parcours. On the men’s side Matt thinks riders “can play it tactically but you’re going to need very, very good legs on that final climb.” On the women’s, while the Dutch team might be the strong favourites, he says “if there’s a course that’s designed for Kasia Niewiadoma, it’s this one.”

All three put their necks on the line with predictions for both men’s and women’s races before we hear from a surprise visitor at the end: Belgian legend Kenny van Vlaminck puts us right on the proper nutritionals. Could marrowfat peas be the key to an Alaphilippe victory?
